Mega Evolutions Return in the Pokémon TCG

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is making a big comeback for one of its most powerful features: Mega Evolutions are back in a brand-new expansion set.

After many years away from the TCG, Mega Evolutions are returning with new rules, new artwork, and exciting new cards.

What Are Mega Evolutions?

Mega Evolutions are advanced forms of certain Pokémon. In this new set, cards like Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex take the spotlight. These Pokémon have very high HP, strong attacks, and can completely change the course of a match.

One major change from the original Mega Evolution cards (from the XY era) is that your turn does not end when you evolve. This means you can evolve into a Mega Pokémon and still attack in the same turn, making them much more effective and fun to play.

Release Date and Set Details

Two sub-sets are featured:

  • Mega Brave (メガブレイブ), starring Mega Lucario
  • Mega Symphonia (メガシンフォニア), starring Mega Gardevoir

The official release date in Japan is August 1st, 2025.

These sets will include brand-new Mega Evolution ex cards, likely with powerful moves, support cards, and new strategies designed for the current meta.

Why This Matters

Mega Evolutions were a fan favorite during the XY era, known for their flashy designs and unique mechanics. Bringing them back with updated rules shows that the TCG is listening to longtime players and trying to connect past generations with today’s gameplay.

This is more than just nostalgia — it’s a chance to see how Mega Evolution cards fit into the fast-paced format of modern Pokémon TCG.
